Our Senior Partner Lavinia Kumaraendran was invited to judge the Semi Final of the Moot Court Competition organised by Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee - Lincolns Inn Alumni Association Malaysia.
The Moot problem involved a complex question relating to section 312 of the Penal Code, Article 5 and 8 of the Federal Constitution whereby the participants had to extensively research on abortions and whether the same infringes the fundamental right to gender equality. It was an appeal hearing being conducted in the Federal Court.
Having such a complex area and substantive facts before them, the participants had to succinctly submit arguments within a constraint time limit of 25 minutes as you would in the Federal Court. The Teams did extremely well in doing this whilst addressing us Judges with numerous questions posed to them.
Congratulations to all teams and to University Malaya who won the Competition.
Well Done Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee for a successfully organized event over 2 whole days.
